Our Story

The Hygiene Ladies began with a simple question: Why isn’t there anywhere in town people can go for basic hygiene supplies?

After realizing how many people in the Muncie-area community struggle to access everyday essentials like soap, toothpaste, and menstrual products, two local women decided to start collecting and redistributing hygiene items themselves.

What started as a small grassroots effort has grown into a community-supported nonprofit working to ensure everyone has access to basic hygiene products.

We are a small non-profit outfit. Just a few Central Indiana Hoosiers helping redistribute hygiene products to those in need in our community.

Access to basic hygiene supplies is something many people take for granted. However, for individuals experiencing financial hardships or homelessness, everyday items like soap, toothpaste, deodereant and menstrual products can be difficult to obtain.

A third of Muncie’s population lives below the poverty line. Many individuals and families lack reliable access to essential hygiene products. Hygiene affects health, dignity, confidence, and the ability to participate in everyday like - from attending job interviews to simply feeling comfortable in public spaces. Yet hygiene items are often excluded from public assistance programs, leaving a significant unmet need in the community.

We believe that hygiene is not a luxury—it is a basic human need. By collecting and redistributing hygiene products throughout the community, we work to ensure that everyone has access to everyday essentials that support dignity, health, and well-being.
